Cobra Kai Season 5 Trailer Hints Johnny's Crazy Mexico

The Cobra Kai season 5 trailer alludes to Johnny's plan to bring Miguel home, which could be how the two of them and Robby finally make peace. Season 5 of Cobra Kai, which is scheduled to drop on Netflix on September 9, sees Cobra Kai coming to reign as the Valley's supreme dojo chain under Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), much to the dismay of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). Meanwhile, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) has headed to Mexico to find his father, with Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) determined to bring him home.

The trailer shows Johnny will bring along his son Robby (Tanner Buchanan) to help with retrieving Miguel, though their mission apparently comes to Robby's surprise. Johnny and Robby have had a tumultuous relationship, to put it mildly, but the two finally reconciled at the end of Cobra Kai season 4 with Robby seeing Cobra Kai for what it is. Together with Miguel's situation, Johnny's ultimate goal might be for the three to finally mend fences. It's a plan that just might work with the three taken out of the main conflict involving the very dangerous Terry Silver and Cobra Kai and being able to maturely settle their differences in Mexico. With just the three of them in Mexico, Johnny, Robby, and Miguel can finally work out all the bad blood between them in a way where they'll neither need nor desire to resort to violence. Johnny and Robby can finally lay out all of their problems from Johnny's failings as a father to Robby's rebelliousness. Johnny can also show Miguel that he realizes his teaching methods were misguided, while Johnny can also show both Robby and Miguel that their real enemy is Cobra Kai. Of course, they'll all have a lot to work through.

Johnny, having been a surrogate father for Miguel, knows that after pushing him to win at all costs in the All-Valley Tournament, he's partially responsible for Miguel's journey to Mexico, which seems reminiscent of Daniel's journey in The Karate Kid Part II. As Robby's father by blood, Johnny also knows that bringing him along will give the two of them the chance to truly become father and son once more. The biggest challenge of all will be Robby and Miguel's mutual hatred of each other, but Johnny's strategy could be just what they need with the three of them meeting on neutral ground.

Robby being caught off guard that Johnny has brought him along to bring Miguel home might seem unwise on Johnny's part, but Robby would likely have never agreed to come along if he knew Miguel was the reason why. Miguel's line in the trailer of "We're not friends" reiterates that he'll welcome the sight of Johnny infinitely more than he will Robby. The reply Robby offers of "We never will be" might seem to make it an exercise in futility, but the fact is that Johnny needs Robby to help Miguel, and he might be able to do so in Mexico.
