The Boys Season 3 Teases Some Action

The show’s season 3 premiere, The Boys teases some supe-busting action with a new image. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic novel of the same name, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys was created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and showrunner Eric Kripke. The series follows Hughie Campbell, Billy Butcher, and the eponymous Boys, a group incredibly disillusioned by corrupt and abusive superheroes like The Seven and the PR company that enables them, Vought International. Since its season 1 debut in 2019, The Boys has received critical and commercial acclaim for its satirical take on the superhero genre and its real-world commentary. The Boys season 3 will feature returning cast members Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and Claudia Doumit. Beyond the core cast of returning players, the series will dig further into Vought's history by introducing the superteam Payback, which is lead by Jensen Ackles’ parody of Captain America, Soldier Boy. There will be a plethora of supes found in The Boys season 3. That said, none of these characters will be asking the question: "who ya gonna call?"

The Boys’ official Twitter account recently shared an image of its titular group sporting jumpsuits reminiscent of those worn by Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson in Ghostbusters. The post sees Urban’s Butcher, Tomer Capon’s Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara’s The Female/Kimiko Miyashiro, and Laz Alonso’s Mother’s Milk/Marvin ready for some supe-busting action. Similar to Ivan and Jason Reitman's ghost-busting franchise, The Boys takes place in New York City, where the superhero group The Seven’s headquarters is based. As the former team wages a high-tech battle against the supernatural, the latter wages a low-tech and, usually, losing battle against superheroes. However, all that appears poised to change. The trailer for The Boys season 3 teases Butcher’s new powers, suggesting he’s taken some Compound-V to level the playing field against all these news supes and, more importantly, The Seven’s leader, Homelander.

The rest of the power-less Boys follow Butcher’s lead and take Compound-V remains to be seen. Following the heartbreaking death of Butcher’s wife Becca, Maeve blackmailed Homelander into leaving the real heroes alone in The Boys season 2 finale. The episode ended with Homelander’s son being taken, allowing Butcher, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milk to be awarded a sense of normalcy. Hughie decided to work with Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, unaware of her true, explosive intentions. In addition to that adapting the NSFW comic book arc, Herogasm, The Boys season 3 promises to be its most shocking yet.
