Ironheart Release Date Set For Fall 2023

San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios confirms that Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ in fall 2023. Marvel announced during its San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel that Ironheart will release in Fall 2023. As Marvel continues to build out the MCU with the help of the House of Mouse's dedicated streaming platform, Disney+, newer or lesser-known characters are getting their chance at a live-action treatment. Among the many shows in development at the service is Ironheart, which sees Dominique Thorne play Riri Williams, the lead character and a 15-year-old engineering student who invents a new suit of armor similar to Iron Man's exoskeleton using materials stolen from her MIT campus.

Ironheart are mired in secrecy, but fans will learn a bit more about the show's story when Thorne's superhero makes her MCU debut in November with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the movie, Riri will forge a new friendship with Letitia Wright's Shuri and potentially get involved in Wakandan Outreach Program. These two key events will likely lead to the upcoming Disney+ series. Filming on Ironheart has been underway in Atlanta since June, and now there is some idea of a potential release window for the show.

Shuri’s New MCU Story Sets Up Iron Man’s Replacement, What happens with Shuri in Marvel's What If...? episode 6's ending sets how up Iron Man will eventually be replaced in Phase 4 of the MCU. Shuri’s story in Marvel’s What If…? episode 6 sets up Iron Man being replaced in Phase 4 of the MCU. Shuri, who has been regarded as one of the greatest minds in the MCU, isn’t going to be suiting up as the Armored Avenger, but does stand a chance at filling an important void left by the character.

Though her impressive intellect gives her something in common with the fallen hero who sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame, it’s expected by most that Shuri (Letitia Wright) will instead be forced to take up the mantle of her brother in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While she’s sure to be involved in what comes next for Wakanda, there’s a good chance that she’ll have a role to play of some kind in Marvel’s plans for Iron Man’s legacy in Phase 4.

The ending of Marvel’s What If…? episode 6 hints at how Shuri could take Iron Man’s place in the main timeline. In the aftermath of Killmonger succeeding T’Challa as the Black Panther, Shuri popped up in Stark’s office, presumably as the one person who wasn’t taken in by Killmonger’s ruse. It seems she’ll be forming an alliance with Pepper Potts and Stark Industries to dethrone him. Shuri, who is even younger in What If…? than she is in Black Panther, displayed a remarkable degree of intelligence in figuring out Killmonger’s deception (and obtaining evidence against him). The episode solidifies Shuri’s spot as the smartest hero in the MCU in the absence of Tony Stark. The only one who might rival Shuri is Hank Pym.

Shuri being the Earth’s top genius and getting access to Stark Industries’ resources via Pepper Potts in an alternate timeline raises questions about the likelihood of this happening in the main timeline. Circumstances are different of course, but just like the scenario shown in the episode, Tony Stark is dead, and the MCU could use someone with his brainpower right now. Similar to her decision in the show to reach out to Stark Industries, Letitia Wright’s Shuri doesn’t have to be limited to Wakanda in the MCU. Her role could easily expand beyond the country’s borders, with her offering help to Earth’s heroes in the same way that Iron Man did.

Marvel confirmed during its SDCC panel on Saturday, where Screen Rant was also in attendance, that Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ in fall 2023. A specific release date hasn't yet been set in stone, as Marvel is likely contemplating the schedule for its Phase 5 slate, determining the best time to stream the show.

A fall 2023 release window for Ironheart isn't necessarily surprising, considering that production on the show will continue through October 2022, with some scenes being shot in Chicago. Once filming is over, the show will head for post-production, where the visual effects for the young superhero's flight ability, magnetic powers, and energy bubble will be developed. Marvel also needs some time to market the show, familiarizing audiences with Riri's comics lore and publicizing the other characters it seeks to introduce through her story. So far, Manny Montana, Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, and Harper Anthony have been confirmed to appear in the show, but specifics on their role are under wraps. Some speculations suggest Ross might be playing Riri's best friend Natalie Washington, while Ramos is reportedly a villain in Ironheart who will crossover to other MCU projects. But these details cannot be confirmed until there is an official word from Marvel, and that might take some time, considering the show isn't due out for another year.
